A year ago at this time, we hadn’t yet found out that our child had essentially dropped out of her life. Today, we are preparing to send her out of the nest again and we are hitting all emotions.

Parenting: The Humble Brag
Parenting is hard. Why do we do this? No, really. I mean, I know the Hallmark answer...but, really, why?
(Bio)Mom on the Move
If you’d asked me eight years ago how I’d react to hearing that our kids’ (bio)mom was moving out of state, I’d probably have answered with something along the lines of, “oh, thank you six pound baby Jesus.” But that was then.
My kids are gross. I don’t even care.
My kids are gross. I don’t even care. Well, I mostly don’t even care. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to the 5% of me that still gets bowed up at the pure “ick” of teenage hygiene.
Flu-ing the Coup
It’s happened again. I thought maybe we could just ride out the rest of 2021 without any major parenting milestones, but alas...kids. Am I right? Or rather, NON-parenting milestones. The parenting moments your pesky teens steal from you without permission. I've written before about that sense of loss, like you missed an important invite. Maybe … Continue reading Flu-ing the Coup
Failure to Launch
This is one of those blogs that could go haywire really quickly - much like the conversations between my husband and I regarding the subject matter. Could go haywire? But All My Friends Do
If you're wondering what it's like to raise kids these days...stay tuned. If you're wondering if it's possible to count down the days until the next teen leaves the nest while also wishing those same … Continue reading But All My Friends Do
It’s okay to be a housewife
It’s okay to be a housewife. It’s okay to stay at home. It’s okay to let the others climb up while beyond the ladder you roam. You don’t have to be a hero or the first or at the top. It’s okay to just be you and for knowing when to stop. We’re encouraged, we’re … Continue reading It’s okay to be a housewife
Seasons of Change
Bruised knee, 1; Jyl, 0. Such an odd holiday season this year! I had some time alone while Rich and the kids were out to dinner with his mother - and while it was truly only a few hours, I think because it was Christmas Eve and not our typical 'pre-Christmas night,' the idea of … Continue reading Seasons of Change
Bingo!
The more I research, study, and educate myself on the behaviors of teens, the more I think a boarding school directly to college route makes sense. Ship them off to a far away land until they’re maybe twenty-five. I fantasize a marriage without teens. What would that be like? I say this as my husband … Continue reading Bingo!
