Girl Math was invented long ago by Sally Struthers. When Sally begged for our help, many of the Girl Math pioneers were lying on living room couches next to a bucket. We were home from school, sick, and Sally popped in during the Price is Right pleading for our help. Honestly, I’m not sure what she needed my help with, as I was too locked into my first lesson in Girl Math.

The Power of Mom
Referring back to my entry of a few weeks ago, it didn’t feel right to leave it without an update and a plea. First, I want to offer a huge thanks to all who reached out to us personally with kind thoughts and words of encouragement. It is always so reassuring to know how many … Continue reading The Power of Mom
Mudgirl
Places I don’t belong, by Jyl: At the scene of an accident if there is a need for assistance. Escape Rooms, if my input is critical to finishing before the buzzer. The snake house at the zoo. Or anywhere actually. Or, really, in visual range of any reptiles at all as demonstrated by the many … Continue reading Mudgirl
The Puzzle of Turning 50
This is probably the first time in I can't remember how long that I did not have a blog in the works at least five days before my normal post-time of Monday evenings. I have to say, it didn't feel great! Or, maybe, it shouldn't feel great. Right? I've been super 'on time' with my … Continue reading The Puzzle of Turning 50
Shoot me a 5(oh)
Pre-blog disclaimer: This is about turning 50. There was a time in my life that I really didn't think I would make it all the way to 50 - which means I feel like posting this four days prior is a serious test of karma. If the ship goes down sometime between now and then … Continue reading Shoot me a 5(oh)
A Love Letter
Yeah, it's true, I sort of support the month of February now. Me, who spent years sprinting past Hallmark's wall of red shame for the singlets from late January to mid February. It's not a real holiday after all - just a time for people who are already couples to celebrate another year (though isn't … Continue reading A Love Letter
Kamala, Party of One
Is it a little weird to know how many people won't even see this first line based on the title alone? Weird? Not really - it's something we're used to. We, being women. Oops. There go the male readers! Stay with me! The thing is, there are so many names I could have put up … Continue reading Kamala, Party of One
Rigid, no. Intentional.
I had another one of my favorite lunches last week with one of my favorite people - the one who always encourages me in parenting, marriage-ing, people-ling and writing. Her wisdom is always strong and I am a smarter being because of her. This day, though, she was definitely off, having lost a close friend … Continue reading Rigid, no. Intentional.
Because I’m still 13
I’m trying to figure out at what age I’ll become less concerned about what other people think of me. Because evidently, it's not 48. Every time I think I’m over it, a situation will pop up and *bam,* there goes the brain off to take guesses at whether I was slighted, whether I did something … Continue reading Because I’m still 13
